MSO MISSION & HISTORY

About the MSO
In 2008-2009, the Madison Symphony Orchestra celebrates fifteen years under the dynamic artistic leadership of Music Director John DeMain with a Signature Season. After 83 years in the community, the orchestra has grown to be one America's leading regional orchestras. DeMain, hailed as a "gifted orchestra builder" by the New York Times continues to expand the orchestra's programming with performances of some of the most challenging works in the repertoire.

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Inc. is to produce high quality concertts of orchestral, instrumental, vocal, and choral music, to educate and entertain audiences of all ages in the Madison area and beyond, and to advocate music as a universal language of expression and understanding.

The First 75 Years
MSO Trombonist and Program Notes Annotator, Michael Allsen, prepared a comprehensive history of the orchestra through its 75th anniversary season (2000-2001). His historical pages also contain links to recent articles he has contributed to the Wisconsin State Journal.
