THE FALL YOUTH CONCERTS
TUES NOV 22 AT 9:15 AM, 11:15 AM
& 1:00 PM IN OVERTURE HALL

THANK YOU FROM THE MSO
A very big THANK YOU goes out to all who participated in the Fall Youth Concerts! Thanks to you, we brought the joy of live classical music to more than 5,000 students this year! Please take a moment to fill out the Post-Concert Survey at the link above.

SOUND PALETTE: THE COLORS OF
CLASSICAL MUSIC AND VISUAL ART
The 2011 Fall Youth Concerts highlight the intersection between great classical music and the visual arts. Vivaldi's Autumn Violin Concerto, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Copland's El Salon Mexico will be accompanied by works by Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and other masters. Bring your students for an extraordinary experience in Overture Hall! Please contact Michelle Kaebisch at mkaebisch@madisonsymphony.org to reserve your seats.

ANNOUNCING THE 2011 GUEST SOLOISTS
The two winners of the 2011 Fall Youth Concerto Competition will be this year's honored guest soloists. At the 9:15 AM & 1:00 PM performances, pianist Audrianna Wu will play Mendelssohn’s Capriccio Brilliant, Op. 22 in B minor, and at the 11:15 AM performance, violinist Julian Rhee will play Sarasate’s Fantasy on Bizet’s “Carmen”, Op. 25. Stay tuned for photos and bios!

CONCERTS FOR UPPER ELEMENTARY
& MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
The MSO's Fall Youth Concerts reach nearly 5,000 elementary school children each year. They provide students with the opportunity to experience classical music the way it was meant to be heard...live!

Let the MSO help you prepare your students for these concerts at no extra charge. We'll send one of the MSO's professional musicians and a Madison Symphony Orchestra League member to your classroom to introduce the musical works, the composers and concert etiquette, all in fun and engaging ways. Each year, elementary school music teachers count on visits from MSO docents to help their students prepare and give them a chance to participate by preparing drawings and other projects in response to the music. If you would like a visit from our docents, just indicate so on your registration form.

THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE
The Fall Youth Concerts enrich, engage and inspire through themed, multi-dimensional performances that include photos of artwork the children have created in response to the music, introductions to works by Music Director John DeMain, and inspiring performances by the children's peers: the winners of the MSO's Fall Youth Concerto Competition.

Please contact Michelle Kaebisch at mkaebisch@madisonsymphony.org to reserve your seats.Seats are $4, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Teachers, parents and chaperones are free with groups of 10 or more, and a small number of adult tickets are available by calling 257.3734. Ticket subsidies are available upon request and are based on your school's participation in the free/reduced lunch program. If you have questions, please contact MSO Director of Education and Community Engagement Michelle Kaebisch at 257.3734 or mkaebisch@madisonsymphony.org.

THANK YOU MSO!
Kathy Bartling is a Music Teacher at Waunakee Intermediate School. She recently let us know how much the Fall Youth Concerts mean to her students: “Waunakee Intermediate School was very fortunate to be able to have 300 sixth-graders attend the 2010 Fall Youth Concert. The exemplary performance by the MSO was truly an exciting experience for the students. The minute that the students walked into the hall they were impressed by the ambience and the beauty of the building. They were greeted by John DeMain and were immediately drawn into the magic of the music being performed live on stage. One student mentioned in his journal, ‘I always thought that watching an orchestra on TV was boring and something that old people did. This was different! These were real people playing music right in front of me. I loved being able to hear the music and let it touch my ears and my heart.’”
