November 7 8 9
Overture Hall

"Barber's overture is a jewel of American Romanticism, a little masterpiece: ebullient, vivacious and delightful. It perfectly sets the stage for Sarah Chang, with whom I first worked at the 1992 Concerto for the Planet Earth in Rio, when she was a child prodigy. She has matured into a superstar and it will be a joy to hear her explore the depth and poignancy of the Brahms concerto, one of my favorites. Then our Estonian conductor brings us a very special treat from her homeland, and Shostakovich brightens the air with his Symphony No. 9: a triumphant creation that simply overflows with joie de vivre." - John DeMain
