Six exciting Overtures from the MSO's first five years in Overture Hall. "I'm delighted that these live recordings from our glorious new performance home can now come into your home," said Music Director John DeMain. "It is particularly moving and meaningful to me that the release coincides with the anniversary of my 15th season with the MSO."

The tracks include the overtures to The Bartered Bride by Bedrich Smetana, The Wasps by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Benvenuto Cellini by Hector Berlioz and Ruy Blas by Felix Mendelssohn. Also included are Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the Cockaigne Overture (In London Town) by Edward Elgar.

The MSO's third release on the ION label, this CD features the MSO's Principal Organist and Curator Samuel Hutchison in solo performances of some of the best loved works for the instrument.

"We selected these works to delight both organ enthusiasts and casual listeners, with selections from Bach, Mozart and Handel as well as lesser-known composers," Hutchison said. "The recording shows the amazing tonal range and colors of the Overture Concert Organ." From the wonderfully soft melodies of J. Stuart Archer's arrangement of the familiar Londonderry Air, to the awe-inspiring power of Charles-Marie Widor's Toccata, this recording is a prime example of the thrilling majesty of the "King of Instruments." Produced by Marvin Nonn.

Take home a cast of hundreds! A Madison Christmas, the MSO's second release on the ION label, is a one-hour compilation of highlights from past Christmas Spectacular celebrations under the baton of Maestro John DeMain.

Selections range from the traditional to the contemporary, and from the sacred to the utterly playful. Guest artists include the Madison Symphony Chorus, Madison Youth Choirs, the Madison Area Concert Handbells and a variety of acclaimed vocal soloists. The performances were recorded live at the historic Oscar Mayer Theatre (the orchestra's former home) and digitally remastered by Audio for the Arts.

After selling out of its first pressing, the MSO's debut CD is back in stock. The CD features excerpts of great performances under the baton of John DeMain in his first 10 seasons with the orchestra.

The tracks were recorded live in the MSO's former performance home, the historic Oscar Mayer Theatre, and digitally remastered by Wisconsin Public Radio and Audio for the Arts. From Ravel to Rachmaninoff, Schickele to Shostakovich, these performances reflect a variety of styles, tempos, periods and composers. Throughout the CD, you'll also have an opportunity to hear fantastic solo playing from several of MSO principal players.
