Piano Concerto No. 9, K271
Serenade No. 1
“We welcome the wonderful German conductor
Patrick Strub for his MSO debut with Weber’s
Oberon overture, a dashing, sprightly work filled with effervescent energy. Also making his debut is Grammy Award nominee,
Jonathan Biss, a shining star among the great pianists of the new generation. He will play Mozart’s "Jeunehomme" concerto, the
Piano Concerto No 9, K271--composed when Mozart was just 21. It has been variously dubbed “...perhaps the first unequivocal masterpiece [of the] classical style.” “...One of the greatest wonders of the world.” And “Mozart’s Eroica” by Mozart's biographer. Finally, we have recently been surveying the orchestral masterpieces of Brahms. His gorgeous Serenade No. 1 looks back to the great Viennese serenades of Mozart, but the lyrical melodies and surprising twists of harmony are Brahms’ very own."
