SYMPHONY AMBASSADORS

Want to help introduce your neighborhood or community to the power and passion of the MSO?
Then we want YOU as a Symphony Ambassador!

Your mission
To make it possible for more people in Dane County and beyond to be enriched by classical music.

Your role
To be a link between your neighborhood, or your entire community, and the Madison Symphony Orchestra. Ambassadors communicate with individuals and organizations to enhance classical music appreciation while spreading the word about Madison Symphony Orchestra concerts.

What do Symphony Ambassadors do?
The options are wide-ranging, and are really up to you. Ideally, we are looking for people to help with the following:
  • Help distribute concert posters in your neighborhood.
  • Coordinate a group to attend an MSO concert.
  • Help identify community events or centers where the MSO's Hunt Quartet could perform in recital.
  • Identify and help persuade businesses and organizations in your neighborhood or network to sponsor MSO programs and concerts.
  • Welcome new people to your neighborhood by introducing them to the MSO.
  • Welcome new MSO subscribers who live in your neighborhood.
  • Plus your ideas. The possibilities are really endless!

Join the Symphony Ambassadors
Our Symphony Ambassadors program was a great success in its first season. Currently in its second season, the program has made a marked impact on ticket sales and community awareness of the MSO.

The time commitment is roughly two hours per month, and your volunteer efforts count toward your priority position in subscription seating in Overture Hall. Call Jara Kern at 608.257.3734 x230 or email mso@madisonsymphony.org. Be sure to indicate your city or neighborhood, and indicate your ideas or preferences on how you'd like to get involved.

STUDENT SYMPHONY AMBASSADORS

Calling all young musicians...
Take a night off, get out of the practice room and treat your ears to the Madison Symphony Orchestra! Get free tickets to the MSO, and take a friend, your mom or dad, or that really cute second violinist you met at last week's rehearsal.

This sounds awesome. How do I get my free tickets?
Well, there is no such thing as a free lunch. There is a catch: we want you to be a Student Symphony Ambassador, and you get "paid" with a pair of free tickets.

What's a Student Symphony Ambassador?
Someone like you -- someone who loves music and wants to share their interest with others. Basically, we ask you to put up posters for each concert at the UW School of Music, your studio, and other areas, and hand out postcards to interested students. If you're in a music ensemble, then you make an announcement the weekend before and the weekend of the concert at rehearsal, to let other students know about the concerts and the MSO's $10 student rush program.

That sounds cool, but public speaking scares me.
It's not scary when you're among friends! Just stand up and say, "Guys, this weekend's concert is going to be great. Denyce Graves is coming, and she's singing Sheherazade and a piece written for her. The Symphony is also going to play Brahms' Tragic Overture and Shostakovich's Fifth. You can get 2 tickets for $11 by going to the Overture Center Box Office and showing your student ID on the day of the concert -- any concert -- Friday, Saturday, or Sunday." That's so not hard. Then you'll tell them the concert times. We'll give you all the info.

Ok, this is fine. But I also have other ideas -- for my school, for my neighborhood.
Great. We want to hear them!

I'm hooked. What do I do now?
New Ambassadors are welcome at any time! Call Jara Kern at 608.257.3734 x230 or email mso@madisonsymphony.org.
