The Last Symphony

Pianist Stephen Hough returns to Madison for a memorable performance of Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 5 (The Egyptian). The MSO opens the program with Barber’s dramatic Second Essay, and close with Tchaikovsky’s final major work, the passionately biographical Symphony No. 6.

A native of Chicago, Erik Wm. Suter enjoys an international career and served for ten years as organist at the Washington National Cathedral. He has won five first place awards in organ competitions around the world and his performances of the complete organ works of Maurice Duruflé have garnered high praise.

Experience the talents of brilliant French pianist Philippe Bianconi as he joins the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Conductor John DeMain as soloist in Rachmaninoff’s massive and virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 3. The program opens with Schumann’s dramatic and imaginative Manfred Overture, followed by Witold Lutosławski’s 1954 Concerto for Orchestra, inspired by Polish folk songs.
